Got some motorcycle maintenance to do

One of the side effects of being back from my "deployment" and riding again is wear and tear on the bike.  It's finally time for a new front tire and tube, and the battery may be dying due to the extremely cold weather we just had in San Diego. Bike is sitting in the garage on a trickle charger, and will get some attention soon.  When you have a semi custom Harley Davidson, not only does regular maintenance need to be done, sometimes relocated parts need to be checked out.

What a great time to see that BikeBandit is offering some big sales this weekend!  Too bad I already have my tire and tube, because right off the bat, there is free shipping on orders over $99.  Also, lots of aftermarket parts are on sale (some up to 97%, but no idea which one that is....) and Clymer manuals are 30% off.  While not as detailed as a factory service manual, I've owned a Clymer manual for just about every motorcycle I've owned, and find them sufficient for the work I can do.

It's time to blog again, and change a front tire

Time slips by too quickly.  Here we are in a new year, and I haven't blogged in far too long.  I was overseas for work for a few months, but have been riding since I got back.

No epic trips to report, most the riding has been around San Diego County, but still putting some miles on the bike.  The front tire that has served me well has over 17,000 miles on it, and is getting worn down and pretty old.  It is a Kenda Cruiser S/T, not terribly grippy but I guess that's why it has lasted so long.  Because most my miles are freeway, the tire is worn down much more in the center, so I actually have more tread when leaned over.  This is a good thing overall, but wasn't too great stopping in wet parking lots last weekend!

So I'm ordering another front tire and inner tube from Bike Bandit in a few minutes, will pull the wheel and have a LBS mount the tire.  Got to find some front brake pads I've had here for years too-might as well put them in while everything is apart.

In the wind, or in the air

Update (060513):  Front brake pads looked pretty good back in January when I did this maintenance, and made me realize I rear wheel brake too much.  Trying to ride differently, especially as I got the Connie back on the road about two months ago.

Time to start blogging again!

Don't know who will see this, as this blog has zero official followers, but it's time to start blogging again.  After a short work caused break (if 5 months is short) I'm back and back riding.  It's great, especially living in Southern California where we can ride year round.

Mainly been just riding around, but I did go to a Cycle Gear bike night last night.  Pretty good crowd, and I recognized some faces.  There was some pretty neat heated gear now available at Cycle Gear, but I want to check other vendors like LeatherUp and especially Bike Bandit.  Shameless plug time:  There should be Bike Bandit ads on the page-I recommend them highly, and find their customer service and shipping fast and reliable.  I'll need a new motorcycle tire soon-and since I didn't win the Cycle Gear gift card last night, it will be time to comparison shop soon.
